Attendance and Term Dates

St Mary's prides itself on being one of the top schools in Bury for attendance. We believe the best way for your child to achieve, is to be in school learning.

However, at times your child may be unavoidably absent from school. Please notify school by telephone by 9.30am, followed by a written note upon return. If we do not hear from you, then an ‘unauthorised absence’ is recorded and we will contact you to find out the reasons for their absence.

It is school policy to contact any parent / guardian of a child on the first day of absence if notification has not been received.

Family holidays during term time will be unauthorised as there is an expectation your child is in school. Please consult the Term Dates when booking your holiday.  

In exceptional circumstances absences may be authorised, for example a funeral. Permission must be sought from the Headteacher, at least 4 weeks in advance of the request for a leave. Please use the Request for Leave Form.

If your child has a medical appointment, please show their appointment/ examination letter/card/text to the school office.
