History
At St. Mary’s, we aim to inspire pupils to be curious and creative thinkers who develop a complex knowledge of local and national history and the history of the wider world. We want pupils to develop the confidence to think critically, ask questions, and be able to explain and analyse historical evidence.
Our school commits to building young historians who are able to make links and connections through key concepts and knowledge that is embedded in their long-term memory. This approach is reflected in all of our planning. Rather than attempting to teach historical periods, societies, events or significant individuals in the past in their entirety we explore them through the key concepts, which in turn support pupils to delve deeply in aspects of historical topics.
